Boss, do you find the 5 DMA a better guide than the 8 DMA? If you had to pick one for day or swing trading.Al_Dente wrote:UPDATEAl_Dente wrote:IWM broke 5dma

5dma is such a closely watched ma, so it’s an important benchmark.te_fern wrote:Boss, do you find the 5 DMA a better guide than the 8 DMA? If you had to pick one for day or swing trading.Al_Dente wrote:UPDATEAl_Dente wrote:IWM broke 5dma

Actually, I had read somewhere that the 8 DMA was followed closely. I also saw that Unique used it too, except it was a 8 EMA. I've been trying to use Unique's 8/20 EMA cross over method with limited results. I appreciate your feedback, this gives me something to think about! I tend to get in at the top of moves (thinking about it too much).Al_Dente wrote:5dma is such a closely watched ma, so it’s an important benchmark.te_fern wrote:Boss, do you find the 5 DMA a better guide than the 8 DMA? But it is often too volatile for swing (too easy to jump above and below and above and below etc).
If I traded a SPY swing I would use 10ema on daily, plus STO-9, plus a 10ema on $VIX daily.
I trade IWM using 10ema for swing, plus STO-9, plus a 10ema on $RVX daily.
IWM intraday I use an STO for entry and exit, along with 153/400 ema for direction (roughly the equivalent of 34/89 on the 5minute)
Can u post an 8dma and argue why u like it better than 5 or 10ma
thanks
As I recall, Unique was VERY intraday and overnight, and less so swing.te_fern wrote: Actually, I had read somewhere that the 8 DMA was followed closely.
