Boss, do you find the 5 DMA a better guide than the 8 DMA? If you had to pick one for day or swing trading.

5dma is such a closely watched ma, so it’s an important benchmark.
But it is often too volatile for swing (too easy to jump above and below and above and below etc).
If I traded a SPY swing I would use 10ema on daily, plus STO-9, plus a 10ema on $VIX daily.
I trade IWM using 10ema for swing, plus STO-9, plus a 10ema on $RVX daily.
IWM intraday I use an STO for entry and exit, along with 153/400 ema for direction (roughly the equivalent of 34/89 on the 5minute)

Can u post an 8dma and argue why u like it better than 5 or 10ma
thanks

Actually, I had read somewhere that the 8 DMA was followed closely. I also saw that Unique used it too, except it was a 8 EMA. I've been trying to use Unique's 8/20 EMA cross over method with limited results. I appreciate your feedback, this gives me something to think about! I tend to get in at the top of moves (thinking about it too much).

As I recall, Unique was VERY intraday and overnight, and less so swing.
So his 8ema and 10ema were on 5minute and 15minute charts, and he didn’t insist on a cross.
Maybe his parameters have changed since I watched him.
It sounds like you prefer SWING which is multiple days, sometimes weeks

Here’s my bible for swing, using volatility
On SPY, it has been long for about 15 days (green circle)
On IWM it went SELL two days ago (red circle) and won't go buy until the RVX moves back above the 10ema

Thanks Al_Dente, appreciate you providing your trading system and ideas. Let me think about the above and I'll come back with some questions and hopefully some trades. Been lurking on the board for a while, need to contribute some!
Have a good evening!

Mnuchin proceeded to roil the bond market when he told CNBC he would look at extending the maturity of future Treasury issuance,
hinting at 50 and 100 Year bonds, which promptly sent long-term US bond yields surging by the most since the turmoil following Trump’s election victory.
