Indices and some sectors for the month of May, as of last night’s close, EOM end-of-month
In May, note that utilities performed better than the “energizer bunny” QQQ !!
While everyone focused on THE BIG FIVE tech stocks, the defensives (XLU, XLP) kept quietly making new ATHs.

First few hours of a new month, and esp a new Quarter, there are often large meaningless rotational moves among sectors, as big managers undo posturings and window dressings for the EOM or EOQ snapshot.

These MAY however be the beginning of new THEMEs so they bear watching. For example, money seems to be rotating out of tech and semis in particular, and into materials and financials which were weak at the open.

Just FYI, most companies quarter end is last day of June as July 1 starts H2.

That said June seasonally is weak, I expect realized volatility to rise as summer typically means more sporadic moves as volume goes down.
