Relentless.. if you think it can't go higher.. the market has no obligation to act in reasonable fashion :o

maybe a pullback here first which likely would be bought again.

Big Whale Ray Dalio (founder of Bridgewater, the $160 billion hedge fund) hired Vanessa Selbst, the world’s most successful female tournament poker player. She will be focusing on “trade research and strategy.”
She said: “"The environment feels a lot like poker did back in the day - a bunch of nerdy kids collaborating to try to beat our opponents at a game …It’s also really freaking difficult."
She’s 33 and has a degree from Yale Law.
[Pasta here: So ease up on yourself if you’re having a hard time trading these days. You are in good company, as it’s “freaking difficult”].

intraday
TNA momentum sell signal almost an hour ago
So we set a stop (pink dashed line), or raise the stop
But when the high is 77.25 and the stop is ~76, traders want to take a bit off the table because nobody wants to give back 1.25 points on a happy day like today
AD still strong (has been all day), so unless/until that caves, bulls have a strong incentive to stay bull
NY advancing stocks = 3.4 x declining stocks
NY advancing volume = 4.6 x declining volume
NYAD +1212

But it does happen in daily steps. Since the first of the year these big up moves launching in the middle part of the day from around VWAP have carried around 10 ish points. I have today at around 9 so if the current pattern holds we are just going to do a bunch of noise into the close.
Roughly Jan 2 from VWAP 8 points, 5 points
Jan 3 Trend day
Jan 4 Below VWAP 10 points, Below VWAP 5 points
Jan 5 from VWAP 12 points
Jan 8 from VWAP 8 points
Jan 9 from low of day 5 points then 10 points from same low
Jan 10 from low of day 10 points, from VWAP 5 points
today close to low of day 6.5 points from VWAP 7.5 points
Not sure it is meaningful, but it gives an idea of how much we are experiencing. Clearly a move is somewhere between 5 and 10 points, with 12 hit once. :)

Off topic: more Al Brooks gems:
“Until there is a breakout, there is no breakout”
Paraphrased: “It’s either a trend candle or a doji. Period.”

Pasta Boss to pile on to your comment about hard to make much out of the markets a trend follower like me is good for half of those move amounts on a good day. Factor in the smaller moves that trigger your system but return scratch or negative and we are eating tofu not lobster.

Well that was a pathetic double top. Price crept up in tiny little steps and then faded away. ADX trend strength indicator got all the way to 17, for the spike top it was a respectable 44.

Hard to be enthusiastic when the New York Fed chair bashes all the dovish jibber jabber about fewer rate hikes. Of course he is a short timer leaving this summer after Goldman, Morgan etc pick a successor.
