ES 06-18 (2000 Tick) 2018_05_11.png

2000 tick view
First test of VWAP dargon fly doji (circled) and up we go. Second test inverted twin tower (circled) and up we go. Smart move was to get long early and hold on, just like yesterday. Question is, of course, do we go into untradable chop soon? :?

My chart shows how trailing stops will kill your account if they are a little too tight :evil:

Every time there are 2000 trades it prints the bar. As opposed to every x number of minutes.

NOT INTRADAY
Swing
This is 10 min, following all the higher lows (green boxes)
After 6 days of HL, I’m watching for a break on smalls …......
[edit: red horizontal lines are STOP if it breaks the previous HL]

Re: ticks ...

You can set charts to display ticks (trades) or time.
Example:
Time = 1min, 5min, 30min, 1hour, 1day, etc.
(After 1 min, 5 min, 30min, 1 day a new candle prints)
Ticks = 133ticks, 512ticks, 987ticks, 1600ticks, etc.
(After 133 trades, 512 trades, 1600 trades a new candle prints)

Note: The number of ticks does NOT denote the number of contracts that are traded, just the trades.
For instance, during every tick there are a variable number of actual contracts traded, just like on time charts.

QED, what you say is true but I have a but. I used to run volume on tick charts and usually it is pretty much a flat line if you are using larger numbers. Some people say they can read a 150 tick ES chart and something that tight I would think the volume would vary. :D

Re: ticks ...

Tick charts can be set to any number of ticks above "1" so that you can adjust it to better reflect the equity that you are trading.
Also during slow times (or light trading), you get a better representation of sentiment or earlier indication of change of direction.

Of course, most people use time charts to trade, so there is a "herd mentality" that is tied to time charts. :geek:

Yes, I agree, but the big boys and algos do the majority of future trades so there is naturally a certain amount of consistency or flat lining in tick charts regarding volume.
I trade both various time and various ticks.

Text book. Support at overnight high turns into resistance. Still thinking that if we are dropping why not close the gap.

Smalls are turning down at critical resistance; it should try again
A breakout would be an ATH
[for reference: IWM old high was $160.25 from 1/24/18]
