"On March 12, 2009, Madoff pled guilty to 11 federal felonies and was sentenced to 150 years in prison. He was also ordered to forfeit $170,799,000,000."
I can't wrap my mind around that number. It's like a bowl of spaghetti-Os to my mind.
And, how did the DOJ come up with that number, with that cute little '99 at the end? And, if so, then why has so little been returned to the victims..?
Nice catch by McClellan. The one difference that maybe he doesn't care about but I do is how much leverage do you get. The juiced ETF's have pretty strict margin requirements, I think no more the 25 to 50 % so at most 6 to 1. The nice thing about futures is you usually get 20 to 1 or so with the exchange suggested margin. The other issue is getting out of your position. At least the ETF's have market makers behind them, nobody is behind the futures contracts except another trader.
