If short term trend in VIX is up, wouldn't that indeed be a good time to short XIV?
Tho I don't know what you mean that the short term trend in vixies is up. Your chart doesn't really mean anything to me.
Edit: Hmm looking at your "vixxies" chart, I think you mean something other by vixxies than what I think you mean. I would have thought vixxies were sequential vix futures, vix based etfs or other vehicles, but it looks like your vixxies are inverse.

Large p-bar visible on ES @ 1420 Looks like we might get up to upper channel line at some point

Trin and AD and volume ratios show the weakness…. that can change quickly…..

I don't follow TRIN because it doesn't give any forward indications...??? maybe I should on an intraday indicator, but if you look at Al's chart...doesn't really track the market exactly...

Here is the same set of indicators but with XIV price chart. You decide when is a good time to short the XIV. Color coding: Green -Bullish Equities/XIV, Red-opposite.

Good intraday for me, Al is way more familiar with it than I am. It seems to lag a bit but sometimes works just fine.
1 is neutral, below Bullish above Bearish.

I use trin for INTRADAY direction (scalping aid)
It just tells me, by definition: “what little/lot of volume there is today… it is all flowing into the advancing/declining stocks”
Right now it is NOT flowing into the advancers
