03/19/2016 Weekend Update

Post by Cobra »

Institutional buying and selling chart from stocktiming shows more accumulation than distribution, both accumulation and distribution are down, so it's in trending (up) phase. Not as bullish as the last week when accumulation was up distribution was down but still it's a bullish combination.
  • When accumulation and distribution are down means we're in trending phase.
  • When accumulation is up, distribution is down, it's a bottoming phase.
  • When accumulation is down, distribution is up, it's the topping phase.

Smart money not selling hard so it's not condition 1.) yet, should be more up ahead.

How I use the chart:

I don't care what's the logic behind the chart. I found it works in the following two cases:

1.) When market up huge, if I see smart money huge short, best if new record short, then I know a short-term pullback is due soon.
2.) When market down, if I see smart money suddenly rises sharply from very negative value, then I know the pullback was over.

So I only use this chart for the above 2 cases. Besides those 2 cases, it means nothing to me. i.e. the absolute value of this chart means nothing to me, I only care if it rises sharply or drops sharply.

I see there are two camps here. I believe we are in a big range consolidation for intermediate term. here is why:

The major indices have been highly correlated since 2003 with each up and down. even though each down/up movement differed in size, their synchrony is very prominent.
Image

FTSE is the weakest after breaking down from two year range, with recent rally retesting breakdown level. Recent sessions have shown signs of topping.

Image

Nikkei second leg exceed 100% MM. recent rally is the weakest with possibly another lower high. recent sessions start to turn down.
Image
Image

DAX second leg exceed 100% MM. recent rally is strong, so intermidiate term is hard to call. recent session show signs of topping.

New 52-week Highs, $NYHGH, quite impressive.
Look which sectors are seeing the bulk of the net-new-highs:

Buyback blackout period starts Monday. An increasing number of S&P 500 companies will enter into their blackout period starting next week, about a month before the earnings season kicks into high gear in the third week of April
