Will China cave in, buckle to 104% tariffs? I don't think so.

Rumors saying China may respond with taxing services sector which US has huge surplus. We'll probably know tonight then perhaps another bloodbath day tomorrow.
China is the big kid on the block. It is curious why Trump is trying to bully them. Maybe they refused him some real estate projects.
Services are USA's huge export surplus. China knows how to fight.

When you said "big kid on the block", my first read was "big kid with brick". I thought, wow, you're so sharp!

It's not curious at all, and calling them the big kid on the block points out why both sides have problems. America has been the reigning superpower for a long time, and now a dictatorship is trying to take over. Meanwhile, Xi needs to be domestically perceived as the big kid to hold power and prevent a pro-democracy movement. The classic method is to use external conflicts to direct the people's attention at foreign rivals. The political situation in the US has gotten so divided that it has to use the same method, as evidenced by Democrats using Russia as the official enemy and calling dissenters "Russian assets."
The US and China have no choice but to have a showdown, and the internal propaganda in both countries has indicated that plan for years now. Trump decided to take the initiative before Xi does. The two of them have probably discussed where the real red lines are and agreed to duke it out in designated arenas.
