Institutional buying and selling chart from stocktiming shows SURPRISINGLY more distribution than accumulation, despite not much pullback this week. Something is wrong? Because usually at the current stage, no way more distribution than accumulation. Guess the next week would tell us whether the institutional buying and selling chart really worth the money. The name is very fancy but frankly I always don't think it's useful as mostly it just reflects what is happening now, not what is about to happen and I always have a doubt about whether it is really institutional buying and selling.

• When accumulation and distribution are down means we're in trending phase.

• When accumulation is up, distribution is down, it's a bottoming phase.

• When accumulation is down, distribution is up, it's the topping phase.

Smart money is selling but not selling hard so it's not condition 1.) yet, should be more up ahead.



How I use the chart:

I don't care what's the logic behind the chart. I found it works in the following two cases:

1.) When market up huge, if I see smart money huge short, best if new record short, then I know a short-term pullback is due soon.
2.) When market down, if I see smart money suddenly rises sharply from very negative value, then I know the pullback was over.

So I only use this chart for the above 2 cases. Besides those 2 cases, it means nothing to me. i.e. the absolute value of this chart means nothing to me, I only care if it rises sharply or drops sharply.

NYMO RANT:
NYMO missed most of the SPY rally last October (missed roughly 11+ points on SPY).
And NYMO missed most of the current SPY rally (missed about 14+ points of this SPY rally).
Any other indicator would be thrown in the dumpster by now, because even if NYMO starts signaling accurately again, IT CANNOT BE TRUSTED because of its epic failures.
Missing roughly 25 SPY points is not acceptable.….
Well, i guess we could use a cross of the zero line.....still an inferior indicator, depending on your timeframe....

ukarlewitz (Urban Carmel) wrote a piece about the eventual failure of every oscillator - but I can't find it. I think I read it last fall but I may be wrong. If anyone can find it, please post it.
