Stocks Down At Midday; Alphabet Falls; LGI Homes Breaks Out

The major averages fell further in midday trading Friday, led by Apple (AAPL) and internet bellwethers Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon.com (AMZN) and Facebook (FB).

The Nasdaq retreated 0.9%, while the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones industrial average were each down 0.5%. All three indexes were near session lows. Volume in the stock market today was running sharply higher than Thursday due to the expiration of options contracts.

Alphabet, the parent of Google, sank 3% in heavy volume after analysts at Citigroup said that marketing spending on Google search appeared to be declining and that YouTube's growth might be slowing.

Alphabet has fallen below its 50-day moving average, but it's still working on a flat base with a buy point at 791.05.

Apple dropped 2% in heavy volume after RBC Capital Markets lowered its price target to 115 from 120 on a weaker outlook for iPhone sales and lower average selling prices. Also, China threatened to halt iPhone sales on accusations that Apple violated a Chinese competitor's patent.

Amazon.com fell nearly 2%, while Facebook lost 1%.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which designs microprocessors and semiconductors for consumer-electronic devices, jumped 9% to a new high after Canaccord Genuity upgraded the stock to buy from hold.

Not much to report today.
The NYMO cycle is down.
Price is loitering around the middle keltner band.

NYMO went into the turn zone (thin green line) intraday Tuesday, and has been making small gains since.
We could be getting a turn up here or simply a corrective trip toward the zero line. Time will tell.

My first downside target was cleared and the second was nicked. The second is an open gap, which I was told did get closed on the SPY.
So, the second target may be done, but I'll probably leave on the chart as possible unfinished business.

If a low is in, I have started having daydreams about some kind of a diagonal forming (magenta) to make another high, but it is just imagination for now.

I am flat. I anticipate some long next week, but I'll have to see how things develop.
