RIM is releasing new phones based on their QNX operating system purchase from 2010. This OS is far superior than iOS or Android (IMHO). Hard to tell yet if they are too late to the dance or not. Plus they are releasing the new phones after the holidays - missed opportunity.

You've seen the QNX operating system? Is that in their Playbook?
I have the BlackBerry 9700, which is approx 4 years old. It's suppose to be replaced by the 9900, but I like the 9790, which is sold only by Cincinnati Bell. As a Chicago-area resident, I can't sign up. The BlackBerry 10-based phone is a touchscreen, which I don't like. The manual keyboard will come out later. IMO, I do not like what they're doing. The lousy US economy isn't helping anyone's sales.

They will screw it up.

LOL....pest if funny. I made my entire fortune shorting RIMM and longing AAPL. Why short at $11 when you could have shorted at $100?

Pez, I'm sure that RIMM's new OS is great, but so was Palm's. Remember all the people who flocked to stores to buy a Palm Pre? Neither do I.

I can't even think how many OS's Nokia's been through since 2007. 3? 4? That didn't work out either, so they had shotgun wedding to MSFT.

And say RIMM did get lucky and built something that could compete, then they have to conquer eco-systems, get developers on board and absorb the cost associated with getting people to switch. Not to mention getting their sole distributors to consumers, cell service providers, to push the device.

It was, from the beginning, presumptuous of phone manufactures to think they could build hand held computers. The funny thing is that they thought it was presumptuous of AAPL to think they could build phones. They didn't realize that the ability to place calls, the phone part of the "phone", was not a product, it was a feature. Now it's too late.

I'm not saying RIMM won't bounce. I have no idea. I'm just saying the expression "Death Spiral" has the word "death" in it for a reason. They're probably finished. (less the spike from whoever takes them over)

GL and whatever you do, I hope you make money.
