HFT/Algos perhaps pointing to that target. Don't bet on it too hard, I don't track this.
It did come with volume, but volume is in-line with the rest of the day.

SPX possible channel 5m.. VIX pressing downtrend still .. .hourly candle.. seems a lower low / gap fill would be better support… as VIX hits 14ish?

Here’s a data run that paststat did on Friday (as of 4/9), on what happened in the past when VXX closed down for 6 contiguous days.
“29/30 times VXX closed higher than the entry at some point of time in the next 5 trading days.”
Trade date+10 and trade date+20 look weak here which means bull SPY further out
