I've got some long term charts suggesting a sell at 1400/05 - and that's what I'm doing now. No big position, stop is 1411, target is 1375 :D

BB52X showed on his blog when SPY weekly RSI (5) was > 90 last three times, SPY was soft the next week or so. I expanded his observation to include all available data for SPY. There were 12 such events since SPY inception. 9 times SPY was lower (%loss 0.28-1.75) after a week, 3 times it was up (% gain 1.91, 1.36, 0.04 dividend included)

A few interesting tidbits….

When SPX makes its high for the week on opex day – it has not closed down since Jan 2007

Since 2007, When SPX makes its high on a Friday of Quad Witch – it has major topped…. BUT….. there were in volatile bearish markets…. Dec 07 (Wed after), Sep 08 – Opex day, Sep 2011 (Tuesday after)….. When I say Major Top – that means it declines at least 50 SPX points…..

The record pre 2007 is not so clear…. what it really tells me is that in bearish market periods we tend to squeeze higher during opex and then we roll over ….

All in all …. making the high for the week today was against the historical precedent….. but that is the way this market goes….

There are so many algos now trading the mkt that have begun to eat at each other and have crushed volatility. If a spread was 3 cents 2 years ago it is now as low as 1/10th of a cent. It's called arbitrage and I have seen this before. Everyone agrees to not move the spreads any tighter while they all make money until someone comes along and doesn't play by the rules and thinks cutting the others just a tad is easy money. Then the others join in. Suddenly, it's a race to take any profit at all.

Could some get killed if a Black Swan event pops up? Sure. But for now, the mkt, as we used to know it, is an extraordinarily bad trading vehicle, propped up by TBTF institutions whose job it used to be to safeguard the public's trust in them by holding their money. MF Global showed that's no longer the case.

They like IWM but are in love with EEM. IWM lagging EEM, may be an opportunity for a scalp especially if it pulls back to this AM low!

This ain't an evil plan, it's just a TA view of resistance at 1400ish. And those who believe in these kind of charts (e.g. me) open up a short position here...
