I went into UAL at 17.99, 80 shares only. I can't sell till Wed, so it has until then to crash & burn.

watch airline stocks with the price of oil. Oil goes up, airline goes down Most of the time. Stockchart has index $DJUSAIR, only track of Airline .

ALK is little better financially compare to the rest of Airline but nowdays you never know, UAL might fly high and Alk goes lower in price.

Today we are up around 2.8 on Spy so far. Over the last 400 days, days that made it to 2.45 and up on SPY (close to Open) had the following close outcomes : Avg = 1.35 up, Highest = 4.07, Lowest = -4.56 (crazy); note these are very strong crazy days. Days that made it to the conservative high of 2.00 to 1.50 range, had closes that averaged much closer to the High (Close was around around 80-75% of High). Is this a crazy day or conservative day? . Note, that we don't know if we have hit the high yet.

Odds we close at 1.35 +138.56 = 139.91 on average, over 13 samples. However since we are hanging on to these high levels too long throughout the day, I am having my doubts. If we don't see some type of collapse soon, there may be more up. People will start thinking the coast is clear and that the chances of going down for the day is off. But it is Friday and everybody will get off the bus before the end.

very nicely put. stats are over done in the modern west as is illustrated by this little gem. 3 stats guys went hunting and then went to a bar to hang out. the bar maid said "how did you boys do". the first stat guy said we found a rabbit and i shot over it. the second guy said i shot under it. the third guy said so we got it.

the problem in trading is how to integrate what really (as most of us are not formal in our use of stats) is "frequency of event" with what is actually happening. consider other important things in life such as fighting or making love--how useful are stats? Experience can help in both areas as well as trading but only if our approach is fresh each time. you learn all this stuff and then give it say 25% importance while focusing 75% on the actual action and how it feels.

it's an interesting problem--and how you read charts really can be impacted by this situation. even if both people agree on the state one can scalp it and one position it making 2 inverse trades based on a agreed upon outcome.

The fact that I can't sell is not necessarily a bad thing. It may be much higher 3 days from now than a few hours after buying. I have margin on some accounts but I don't use it.

AIG halted for news (CNBC), what ever that means. Good or Bad? It looks like it did not go up today with the market. Something leaked out and now major news to come?

This is UAL chart ,MACD is exteremly important to me. Hope strategy! It's between S1 and P right now. Hope is not a bad thing.

Treasury to sell 4.5 billion in AIG stock. AIG to buy alot of it. If no more buyers, then AIG down?
