Big question! Only the market knows. All I know is that the number on the screen is fair market value of whatever I am trading which is based on all information known and unknown to me. If my trade goes against the market's move, I am the idiot who was not in the know and if it goes in my favor, I am so smart :D

Most of the time when I have lost money (and sometimes big money because I was pig headed) was because I was pig headed :o and thought I knew more than I actually knew. So, now I just trade the tape rather than spend time on things that are way bigger than me. I do keep on a lookout for trendlines, support resistance levels and dabble a bit in EWT but it is only for the investments I have where I may not be as agile as in trading and for fun/outlet.

Sorry... did not answer your question (truthfully, I don't know maybe someone else does) but it resonated with the Mr. Hyde in me that thinks I can actually comprehend and solve such questions. Also, sorry for sounding 'preachie' or a reformed alcholic so - Good luck to you.
There are no bulls or bears in the market. Only wolves and sheep.

only my opinion--but if anyone is really interested in things such as qe3--then put about 10% of your time into grasping the euro zone situation. my suggestion is not to get caught up in the individual country issues. but to watch for major pivot points where policy is likely to change. this doesn't take a ton of effort. and what you are looking for is situations where it comes down to the wire--and a guy or a group of political types have to go this way or that.

for cynics (and who isn't about this stuff) the situation so far has been "the second stuff is super intense they go along with the program". so this is a trend in thought--and that trend will end--but you know the danger of anticipating this. the object right now overall is to isolate the germans esp the german bank/and political guys and have everyone on the planet against them. this forces a vote based on the idea "we have the known and the unknown". usually people go with the known right up to the inflection point.

the reason for all this above--is that in the end the real problem right now short term--is the decline euro zone economies which is impacting everyone including (gasp) china and china is impacting japan. so while it could change by open tomorrow--the lynch pin at this point appears to be the euro zone and thus the idea that some crazy ass hail mary pass in september or very very early oct could be in the cards.

this also generally fits fed timing as suggested in the current leaks (which were not absolute--but suggested the last meeting or the next one.

i also totally agree with the jackal that trying to be smart is a lot of work and usually doesn't pay off. and the easy way to do all this is simply watch a chart with a trend line. only my opinion from about 1 hour of reading a week--so grain of salt (consider sea salt as it has a far lower sodium content--and higher trace mineral content)
