the philly fed state coincident indexes for july were releases today. the readings there are indicative of near recessionary levels. i need do some tests to check if the diffusion indices we're this low anytime but in recessions. i'm not sure this is the case, but growth is definitely slow now, more than the bulls admit.

well, this is what i got:
the 3 mo diffusion of 36 is the lowest in this recovery (beating 48 in july 11):

in the past this was recessionary levels, but in july 11 it wasn't.
the 1 mo diffusion of 10 is also the lowest in this recovery and this level (0-20) was apparent before only going to or from recessions. however, it could be that there is some seasonal factors in play that caused the decline in 11 as well. i will be waiting for the next month results for a confirmation.

the indexes go only to 79, so not enough data from that perspective.
