U.S. Stocks Close for Second Session in Hurricane Aftermath; Corporate Earnings, News Hold Steady--

11:57 AM EDT, 10/30/2012 (MidnightTrader) -- U.S. markets remain closed for a second day as the country's east coast assesses damage in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The closure impacts stocks that trade on the NYSE and Nasdaq, as well as bonds, options and derivatives. U.S. equity index futures and options on futures markets opened for overnight electronic trading, but closed this morning at 9:15 a.m. ET. At last check, U.S. stock futures were shouldering negative territory.

U.S. financial markets are expected to reopen Wednesday.

Meanwhile, corporate and earnings news continues to stream in. Among top headlines is news that two senior executives are leaving Apple (AAPL) within the next year. John Browett, who heads AAPL's retail sector, is exiting the company, as is Scott Forstall, the head of iPhone software.

In commodities: crude oil for December delivery is down $0.32 at $85.22 a barrel. November natural gas is up $0.01 at $3.81 per 1 million BTU.

December gold futures are up 0.80 at $1,709.50 per ounce. December silver is up $0.11 to $31.86 per ounce. December copper is up $0.01 at $3.50 per pound.

EARNINGS WATCH

Despite the closure of the markets, corporate earnings continue to stream in:

AGN ($91.64) Allergan reported Q3 EPS of $1.06 vs. estimates of $1.04. Revenues for the quarter were $1.41 billion vs. estimates of $1.43 billion. The company provided guidance for Q4; now sees Q4 EPS of $1.18 - $1.20 vs. consensus of $1.20, revenue of $1.47 billion - $1.545 billion vs. $1.51 billion. For FY12, AGN sees EPS of $4.17 - $4.19 vs. analyst estimates of $4.17 and revenue of $5.695 billion - $5.77 billion vs. estimates of $5.82 billion.

TLM ($12.16) Talisman Energy reported Q3 adjusted net loss of $0.04 per share. Analysts had forecast TLM would pull in earnings of $0.06 per share.

JCI ($25.81) Johnson Controls reported a 4% decrease in Q4 net sales to of $10.4 billion from a year ago and EPS less items rose a penny to $0.77.

VLO ($29.03) Valero reported Q3 earnings of $1.90 per share, ex one-time items, versus the Capital IQ consensus of $1.74. Revenues were $34.73 billion, versus the analyst estimate of $34.97 billion.

PCS ($10.59) MetroPCS Communications reported Q3 earnings of $0.38 per share, ex one-time items, versus the Capital IQ consensus of $0.26. Revenues of $1.26 billion were in line with analyst estimates.

X ($21.15) U.S. Steel reported Q3 EPS of $0.28 on sales of $4.65 billion vs. analyst estimates of EPS at $0.00 on sales of $4.64 billion.

F $10.36) Ford reported Q3 EPS of $0.40, vs. the analyst consensus of $0.30 per share on Capital IQ. Revenue was $32.1 billion, vs. expectations of $31.1 billion.

HSU is an ETF trades off of SP500
It is open and trading in Canada, however SPY is closed.

Paging KeiZai or Emerging market fans.

I am paying attention to Bull flag and fib 50%, below 50% mark I will see it as failed move up or too weak for my taste on the long side. so far counter trend are looking good.

Agreed, I am not a big fan of EM too, money are moving there but for me it´s a junk (low quality companies)...when things start to be even worse protectionism will take place and all the big money begins to move back to homeland = Europe, US...just my opinion :mrgreen:
