Always have dry powder to gamble on a "can't miss" swing. Follow as many tickers on daily basis as you can, treat em as friends and family, get to know their moods so as to profit from their actions. General answer.

It depends on what you're holding. This morning, I sold whatever went green (USO, CLF, AMD). EWZ (Brazil) is the most beat up country that I know of. I reduced my EWZ exposure, but this is what I'm comfortable holding. Coal, oil, and maybe mining, are falling knives.

From just some guy who spends too much time looking at charts my gut says we are due for a bounce. I'm thinking of going long (for just a few days probably) where we have seen some relative strength.

For example, on weekly charts both FCX and NUE are showing nice patterns above various EMA's and look like they want to go higher if we see any strength in the markets overall. Just one momentum follower's opinion! :D

YESTERDAY

“VIX And VXX Fall As The Markets Fall: Confused?”

http://seekingalpha.com/article/992741- ... itle&ifp=0

“The VIX is heavily weighted toward the December S&P index options, and after …[today]… it will roll into January as the next-term option structure….The options market is not expressing high anxiety relative to the degree of selling that we've witnessed …. Part of this is due to seasonal factors, but part of it is also probably due to …”

OMG !!

MCP reported -5 yesterday after-hours, which is better than expected. For the first few hours, MCP was trading +7%, then they slammed it. They stopped the trading at -12.79%. My last sell on MCP was 9.35.

Just started trading again.

I received this info this am;
Note that VIX was halted yesterday for a while because of "system problems." Once again, when 70% of daily average volume in all asset classes is driven by HFTs and their algos, I have no idea what is cooking behind the door. VIX did not respond today, but for all we know VIX could go parabolic tomorrow without much of a corresponding sell off in S&P and we will all be trying to explain what the heck happened.

This system suggests SPX will come down to 1340ish, and if we consider the H&S formation it makes sense :D

Jarbo, why do you have sh... in your portfolio? I try to focus on trades/investements I believe in - and if my ideas are not confirmed I sell, I sell immediately.

thanks for all your opinions. all duly noted and considered.

i don't have 'shit', i just meant "shiet". i'm about 10% away from the cash level i feel comfortable with in this market. i should've sold some winners and cut some losers a few days ago, but as we all know hindsight is 20/20.

plus i think your 1340 is pretty accurate - i'm looking at 1320/40 at some point in the near term - just trying to maximize my exits to raise cash. i'll reenter opportunities around 1320/40.
