I had a handful of trades that closed out early in the week.
They were profitable, but big profits got whacked into small profits.
One trade would have been fine, but it was a bunch. (portfolio a little over correlated perhaps...)
Anyhow, I was feeling pretty defensive by the end of the week.
Going into NFP, I had a rather large short in gold and cut the trade in half before the news.
Did well but left a lot on the table.![]()
Reflecting on it afterwards, I did not fault the technical aspects of the decision. A risk reduction was appropriate to the circumstance given the preceding trade.
However, the emotions that were coloring my thinking at the time were not good.
It is hard to hold onto that mental toughness after a few blows.
I think it was Mike Tyson who said: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
