Never Mind,

"According to Citi' Brent Donnelly, the answer is mixed.

Note that the VIX is now on a 10 handle which is a fairly rare occurrence. Out of 6,813 trading days since 1990, only 110 have been below 11 in VIX (1.6%). I looked to see if there is any forecasting value (i.e., does low VIX forecast future performance?) and the answer seems to be no. Sometimes, like 2006, VIX stays low for ages and stocks keep rocketing. Other times, like 2005, the low VIX precedes a stock market correction.
Unfortunately, since we now live in a world with $14 trillion in central bank liquidity, which means the current market is neither comparable to 2005 or 2007, the market will do whatever central banks decide it will do, regardless of where the VIX trades."

Sloppy I H&S, but it is there.

Hard to believe with $VIX this low, but the I H&S indicates an upward movement!

Since 1990.. only 17 days which VIX dropped below 10.. Today is on that list!
In 2000 and 2007 how long after the VIX low did it take for market to peak?
fwiw weekly.. not that simple..

Thanks boss. We all watch the VIX but I guess as an indicator it is like all the others, an indicator not a law.

TLT continues to recover.

However, IYR and XLU are both getting creamed, >1% losses.

From Mohamed El-Erian repeated at Zero Hedge this morning. He says we are now in the twitchy phase.

Visual comparison of VIX now and VIX 2007:
VIX was scraping along the bottom between, say, Dec 2006 and Jan 2007 and SPX did not top out until October 2007.
This is a different market with different catalysts, but VIX is NOT broken, it is still registering option sentiment, which is what it was designed to do.
One analyst is saying that VIX record lows indicates that “protection is under-owned”.
I disagree, as the SKEW was 138 yesterday (EOD… I’m sure it is higher today).
Disclaimer: I am not an investment advisor. This is just my opinion NOT investment advice.

Yesterday they started the move up an hour and a half before the close, but that was for Apple which is close to a sure thing. Don't know how solid Facebook earnings will be and the real question is will they make the foreign markets move up providing us with a second gap up open in a row. With the dollar about 1.00 lower than yesterday that has to hurt the reaction. Also seeing the market sell off today would you bet on a different outcome? One thing for sure unless dollar moves around fast there will be no fresh carry trade money coming in. Well the early tell should be if we get a good 3:30 ramp, in my worthless opinion.

Major intraday turnaround in KRE, was RS strong early, now red.

XLF still grn.

$BKX (bank index) is right about where it was the first week of Dec. Banks are waiting for something or someone to "show them the money".

That is one long consolidation pattern. A breakout either way is likely to be dramatic.
