Interesting as I have been unloading longs on this rally today. Just from a play the percentages perspective, pullbacks frequently occur when the indexes open and close outside the BB. IWM looks way overheated...not ready to short or anything, just think I can find a better buy later.

I did not read Tabby’s post. He is right. I said something last spring apropos of AH’s “secret indicators“. At that time I thought that it was immature to hide the explicit information on what one was doing…but, if he can find suckers ready to pay for something that they cannot understand…good for him!

Disraeli once whispered, privately, to an aide: “Watch that man! He means what he says!” That man was Otto von Bismarck.
This cannot be said about SWalsh who, obviously, does not mean what he says. But ambiguity washes the Walsh…Thus, his apology is fully accepted.

Anyway…I’ll be back.
Thank you, friends, for your support.

The last time I remember saying that was on July 7th 2011, and what do you know the next day abandoned babies everywhere....
Don't know if we will get it this time, but we can hope...
I've been watching this all day and the only time a big HFT has hit seems to be to stop a decline from starting so they can sell. After all, the guys running the HFT machines also have positions past the 1/4 second mark. The latter is likely the money used to fund the bigger trades.

This is what the HFTAlert calls The Accumulator. It's a proprietary study that shows if they are buying or selling, and they have been selling all day as shown by the divergence as well as the small HFT and algo sell spikes. But they don't want it down yet. This was one of the most extreme divergences he has seen. So you might get your wish and especially if they are reversing and going short:
Take a look at TVIX as well. Note that VIX has been rising all day, while TVIX is rock steady all day long, on the biggest volume day since before the fall last summer.
TVIX made an all time low on that day 7/7, and we haven't gone lower than that level until today....
Hard to measure absolute figures with a leveraged instrument due to the decay factor. That being said, it looks to me like someone is hiting stops and grabbing as many shares as the can right now, the disparity in percentage loss is well over 1% today, that is a significant amount of money if one is playing with large enough numbers. Curious to see how CS deals with the disparity tonight. Watch for a bump right before closing would be my best guess.

HFT: Well I guess they just got some stops on the low one as the spike up was 400 shares bid for by HFTs

I didn't win anything in this gap up because of that short but I'm glad I didn't lose much either which is the key to trading: control the losses. If this trend could last a little bit longer, I'll sure win everything back.
That's one thing I am not good at - hedging. If mkt gaps up, you loss a little, and if mkt gaps down you lose a little, wouldn't it be the same as if one simply place a small # of shares for the trade?
depends on your trading strategy, holding both long and short may not work for you.

for me, because it's always follow, so when I get the buy signal, it always looks late. So if say the buy signal turns out to be wrong, I cut immediately, then if the market rallies back, the next buy signal would have a worse entry than the first one, so if this kind of things going on, I'd be whipsawed a lot unnecessary losses. The solution is to let the stop loss to work out the whipsaws if I'm on the wrong side.

again, depends on your trading strategy.

Yea I am watching it real time, it is an interesting vehicle for sure. I don't generally recommend watching vix for trade signals but I am beginning to pay attention to this one.

A finish at the highs gives a 60% probability of a gap down.
So who's going short for the weekend?

I went long on EWJ (Japan) and XLP (consumer staples) for the weekend.
