Using Tradestation consecutive downs indicator...here is what the S&P mini's have done dating back to 1998.

Each are separate instances. The number of Down days in a row shows:

4 - 75 times
5 - 27 times
6 - 5 times
7 - 1 time
8 - 1 time
9 - 0 times

Since the 2009 rally started we have had 11 instances where the market was down 4 days in a row, and 3 instances where it was down 5 days in a row.

The VIX seems really subdued for the decline we have been having.
I suspect options expiration and perhaps the long treasury auctions are a factor.
Look for a change in character one way or another  as this stuff clears.

Obama about to run his mouth on the debt "reduction" plan.

See what happens after that.

Those numbers are merely just black or white.

Can you produce the average % gain on 6th day after 5 straight down days?

so far goes as planned. I don't see urgent to sell here, so bulls still have hopes, lots of.

bigger picture, the fighting around here is important, DECISIVELY breakdown would be a typical measured move, the target could go as far as illustrated in the chart. so bulls, keep finger crossed and pray please: May the force be with you!

Implies that GS could popppppppppp to the upside! MA 50 and MA 200 v close to each other providing huge support.

Need to wait and see till earnings but given JPM's earnings I think there is a good chance we will see GS kick some Ass!
